Erste Siedler sollen hier bereits 1635 angekommen sein, später ließen sich vor allem Einwanderer aus Schweden und Finnland nieder. Diese 1852 gegründete Ges. war eine „Eisenbahn“ der ganz besonderen Art: Sie führte vom Land in das Wasser, und ihr Zweck war es, im Tenant‘s Harbour in St. George Boote und Schiffe (vornehmlich zu Reparaturzwecken) aus dem Wasser zu holen.
