Info:Im Tal des Mosquito Creek oberhalb des Ortes London Junction am South Platte River in Colorado waren die großen, 1883 eröffneten London Mines (die Silberbergwerke wurden so genannt, weil sie anfangs einem englischen Syndikat gehörten). Nachdem die London Mines in London Junction noch einen Erzbrecher gebaut hatten, verlangte man nach einem Eisenbahnanschluß zwischen Fairplay und Leadville, am besten per Tunnel unter der Mosquito-Bergkette hindurch. So kam es 1882 zur Gründung dieser Bahn, zu deren Investoren auch Hugh J. Jewett gehörte, zu der Zeit president der Erie RR. Noch im Sommer 1882 entstand eine 7 Meilen lange Schmalspurbahn von London Junction (Anschluß an die Denver, South Park & Pacific RR) zu den London Mines - die aber nie weiter Richtung Leadville als eigentliches Endziel kam und nur drei Jahre lang fuhr, dann war der Silberbergbau-Boom in dieser Gegend schon wieder zu Ende.
Specials:Herrlicher braun/schwarzer ABNC-Druck, dreigeteilte Vignette mit Prospektoren, Eisenbahn auf einer hogen Brücke über einem Wasserfall, Bergarbeiter mit Hunt im Stollen. Originalunterschrift H. J. Comstock als secretary (der berühmte Comstock-Tunnel).
Availability:Unentwertet, Kupons # 3 uff. anhängend. Eine absolute Rarität, bei uns (aber als 1.000-$-Stück, siehe folgendes Los) überhaupt erst ein einziges Mal versteigert worden (im Jahr 1997, Zuschlag damals 850,- DM). (R 10)
