Info:Das Hocking Valley (zwischen Athens und Coumbus) in Ohio war ungeheuer reich an Kohlevorkommen, für deren Erschließung es schon früh diverse Eisenbahnbauaktivitäten gab. Eine der ersten war diese bereits 1854 gegründete Bahn, der aber schon die Puste ausging, als gerade einmal eine Trasse zwischen Hamden und Logan planiert worden war. Diese Trasse übernahm nach vielen Jahren 1870 die „Gallipolis, MacArthur & Columbus RR“, die aber 1873 an der Fernwirkung des Gründerzeitbooms in einer Börsenpanik verschied. Ihr folgte 1876 die ebenso kurzlebige „Columbus & Gallipolis Ry.“ und 1878 die „Ohio & Western Virginia Ry.“, die sich dann mit der 1864/67 gegründeten „Columbus & Hocking Valley RR“ zusammentat und die Bahn am Ohio River 1880 vollendete. Diese spätere Hocking Valley Ry. wurde 1910 Teil der Chesapeake & Ohio („Chessie System“) und ist auf der nördlichen Strecke noch heute als „Columbus Subdivision“ der CSX Transportation in Betrieb. Auf dem südlichen Abschnitt fährt heute die „Hocking Valley Scenic Railway“.
