Gegründet 1842, wobei die Gründer ursprünglich das Ziel verfolgten, die Housatonic RR Richtung Norden nach Rutland, Vt. zu verlängern. Doch noch vor Baubeginn 1845 wurde die Aktienmehrheit der Bahn von der Western RR of Massachusetts gekauft, die den freien Aktionären auf 99 Jahre 5 % Dividende garantierte und der ursprünglich interessieren Housatonic RR eine Mitbenutzung erlaubte. 1870 als „North Adams Branch“ Teil der Boston & Albany RR geworden und damit durch deren Übernahme 1900 zum New-York-Central-System gekommen. Die North Adams Branch wurde auch von der 1968 entstandenen PennCentral weiter betrieben und kam nach deren Konkurs 1976 zu Conrail.
