Die Gesellschaft baute die wirtschaftlich eminent wichtige 105 Meilen lange Eisenbahn von Charleston nach Savannah in South Carolina, wobei wegen ihrer großen Bedeutung der Staat 27 % der Baukosten beisteuerte. Im amerikanischen Bürgerkrieg wurde die Bahn stark für Truppentransporte eingesetzt und erlitt bei den späteren Kampfhandlungen schwere Zerstörungen. 1866 reorganisiert und umbenannt in Savannah & Charleston RR. 1873 in Konkurs gegangen, nachdem die Anleihe von 1856 nicht mehr bedient werden konnte Ein gewisser Henry B.
