Aktien mit seiner Unterschrift sind seltener als die seines berühmten Bruder John D. Rockefeller. William war einer der Gründer und Vice-President der Standard-Oil-Gesellschaft. Außerdem mit Originalunterschrift als President von William S. Webb (1851-1926). Webb gab seine Karriere als Mediziner zugunsten der lukrativeren Tätigkeit als Financier und Waggonbauer auf, nachdem er eine Tochter von William H. Vanderbilt geheiratet hatte.
