Unter den noch existierenden Institutionen der USA ist die Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) sowohl das älteste Museum, als auch die älteste Kunstschule des Landes. In den Anfangsjahren der PAFA lernten die Studenten voneinander, da es keine Lehrer gab. Die PAFA war eine der ersten Kunstschulen, die Frauen zur gleichen Bedingungen wie Männer als Studenten zuließ. Zur Jahreswende 2006/07 erwarben die PAFA und das Philadelphia Museum of Art zu Erweiterungszwecken die “Klinik Gross” von Thomas Eakins für 68 Mio. $. | | Specials: | Kupferstich mit großer Vignette mit Darstellung des 1806 gebauten allersten PAFA-Gebäudes, der Erweiterung von 1846 und des Neubau von 1876.
