Daß die Gründung nicht so ganz astrein war, zeigt sich in der Tatsache, daß Einzahlungen auf das Kapital in zwölf Monatsraten erlegt werden konnten, andererseits aber ein „maturity value“ in Höhe des zehnfachen Kapitaleinsatzes versprochen wurde. 1899 geriet die Bank dann prompt in ernsthafte Schwierigkeiten und wurde von etlichen Gläubigern verklagt; den Gründer und Präsidenten J. W.
