Das Geheimnis der Schnelligkeit: Auf fast der halben Strecke zwischen Pueblo und Trinidad legte man entlang der schon bestehenden Schmalspurbahn der Denver & Rion Grande RR einfach nur ein drittes Gleis - fertig war die normalspurige Bahn. Unter Einschluß der von ihr kontrollierten Denver, Texas & Gulf und Fort Worth & Denver City RR’s (mit denen sie als “Texas Panhandle Route” operierte) besaß die Ges. damit eine durchgehende Verbindung von Denver, Col. nach Fort Worth, Tex. (803 Meilen).
