Jacobi” gegründet. 1865 Firmenänderung in Hell & Sthamer, 1889 Umwandlung in eine AG. Produziert wurden auf dem 94.000 qm großen Fabrikareal in HH-Billbrook, Billbrookdeich 28 mit rd. 350 Mitarbeitern Schwerchemikalien (u.a. Kali- und Natronsalpeter, Borax und Borsäure, Arseniate, Chromalaun, Chromoxyde, Natronwasserglas, xantogensaures Kali, Schwefel, Phosphor, Thioharnstoff, Schwefelkohlenstoff), Schädlingsbekämpfungs- und Pflanzenschutzmittel. 1927 Übernahme der “Jan” Kemisk Fabrik im norwegischen Frederiksstad, die Phosphor herstellte (bereits 1930 wieder verkauft). Das Werk Billbrook erlitt im 2. Weltkrieg erhebliche Schäden, erst 1950 konnte wieder halbwegs normal produziert werden.
