Die Brücke schuf eine direkte Verbindung zwischen der New York Central RR auf der westlichen Seite (Albany) und der Hudson River RR, der Troy & Greenbush RR und der Boston & Albany RR auf der östlichen Seite (Rensselaer). Die drehbare Brücke war 4800 Fuß (1500 m) lang und auch bei höchstem Wasserstand immer noch mit einer lichten Höhe über dem Fluß von 30 Fuß (9 m). Sie war ein Kernelement der Vanderbilt‘schen 440 Meilen langen Hauptbahn von New York stromaufwärts am Hudson River nach Buffalo. 1901 wurde die Brücke ersetzt durch die Livingston Avenue Bridge.
