Die Gesellschaft übernahm die bis dahin von einem englischen Unternehmen betriebene Pferdebahn. 1896 Abschluß einer Vereinbarung mit der Stadt über die Einführung des elektrischen Betriebes, die gleichzeitig jede Konkurrenz für die Gesellschaft ausschloß. Die Elektrifizierung und den gleichzeitigen Bau der Überland-Linie Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel übernahm die A.E.G. 1898 außerdem Konzession einer elektrischen Zentrale zur Licht- und Kraftabgabe für das Gebiet der Stadt Braunschweig. 1922 Umfirmierung in "Elektrizitätswerk und Straßenbahn Braunschweig". Börsennotiz in Berlin und Braunschweig. 1920 erlangte die Stadt Braunschweig die Aktienmehrheit, 1937 wurde der gesamte Betrieb auf die Stadt übertragen. | | Availability: | Bislang nicht katalogisiert, Unikat.
