Briggs (1803-65) kam 1835 nach Galen im Staat New York und war Mitbegründer der ersten Bank des Ortes, der Miller’s Bank. 1856 gründete er die Briggs Bank of Clyde. Als President folgte ihm nach seinem Tod 1865 sein Sohn Samuel H. Briggs nach. 1880 erhielt die Bank den Status einer “National Bank”. Die Aktien der Bank befanden sich weitgehend im Familienbesitz. Im ersten halben Jahrhundert ihres Bestehens wurden insgesamt nur ca. 50 Zertifikate ausgestellt, also zuletzt nicht mal eines pro Jahr. Die winzige Bank mit nur einer einzigen Geschäftsstelle an der Main Street in Clyde bestand nachweislich noch in den 1990er Jahren. | | Specials: | Original unterschrieben von Samuel H.
