Nur wenig bekannt ist heute noch, daß an den östlichen und südlichen Harzrändern früher unzählige kleine Kohlebergwerke in Gang waren - teilweise, vor allem in schlechten Zeiten, bis in’s 20 Jh. Der aufmerksame Wanderer findet entsprechende Hinweise bis heute an den Wegen.
