Info:Als die 1772 gegründete Preußische Seehandlung (später: Preußische Staatsbank) 1795 bis auf den Salzhandel alle Monopole verlor, wurde ihr als Ausgleich gestattet, “allenthalben Comptoire zu errichten”. So gründete die Seehandlung bereits 1797 als älteste chemische Fabrik in Deutschland überhaupt in Schönebeck a.E. die Kgl. Preussische chemische Fabrik. In den 40er Jahren des 19. Jh. zwangen liberale Kreise die Seehandlung zum Rückzug aus fast allen ihren industriellen Unternehmungen, die als unzulässige staatliche Konkurrenz zum privaten Unternehmertum begriffen wurden. So gelangte die Fabrik in Schönebeck später in den Besitz des Rittmeisters O. Hermann, wurde 1873 gänzlich neu erbaut und 1877 in eine AG, die Hermania AG umgewandelt. 1927 wurde die Chemische Werke Schönebeck AG zur Übernahme der Werkanlagen der in Konkurs befindlichen Hermania AG vorm. Kgl. Preußische chemische Fabrik gegründet. Das Werk in der Königstraße (nach 1945: Geschwister-Scholl-Straße) Nr. 127 stellte Schwerchemikalien, Metallsalze sowie Farben für die Emaille- und keramische Industrie her. Letzter Großaktionär war der Possehl-Konzern in Lübeck.
