Die Gesellschaft führte den Betrieb u.a. der Hildesheim-Peiner Kreis-Eisenbahn, der Riesengebirgsbahn, der Harzquerbahn und der Brandenburgischen Städtebahn. Grosse Verluste in Österreich-Ungarn brachte der für die Achsenmächte verlorene 1. Weltkrieg. Der spätere Versuch, sich im Niederlausitzer Braunkohlenrevier mit Abraumarbeiten zu betätigen, wurde ebenfalls ein völliger Fehlschlag.
