place: | Durlach | | Picture: |  | | Number: | 663 | | Info: | Um 1880 gründete Franz Xaver Schmidt mit zunächst 6 Arbeitern eine Margarinefabrik Sein Sohn Fritz Schmidt und Ludwig Silber erweiterten das Unternehmen in der Alten Weingartener Str. 54 im heute zu Karlsruhe gehörenden Durlach 1897 zur “Süddeutsche Margarine- und Fettwerke GmbH”. Fortan empfahl man sich als “Spezialfabrik für das Bäcker- und Konditorengewerbe und Lieferant vieler Krankenhäuser, Heilanstalten, Strafanstalten und Kolonialwarenhandlungen”. 1921 in eine AG umgewandelt. 1936 wurde in der Alten Weingartener Straße ein modernes Verwaltungsgebäude errichtet sowie ein Luftschutzbunker für 70 Beschäftigte. 1954 Einstellung der Margarineproduktion. Die Fabrik wurde danach von der Süddeutsche Schokolade-Union (später Farüchoc) genutzt, heute beherbergen die Gebäude einen Aldi-Markt. | | Availability: | Nur 2 Stücke wurden gefunden. Fleckig.
