Die Gesellschaft betreibt in Kropfmühl (nach Wiedereröffnung im Jahr 2012) das einzige Bergwerk für makrokristallinen Graphit in der Europäischen Union. Im Segment hochgereinigte Graphite gehört GK zu den weltweit größten Anbietern mit eigenen Rohstofquellen auch in China, Sri Lanka und Zimbabwe. Zweites Standbein ist das Segment Siliciummetall, wo GK der einzige deutsche Hersteller ist, mit Töchtern in der Tschechei und England. Aus diesem Stoff werden in der Chemieindustrie Silikone und in der Alu-Guss-Industrie Fahrzeugteile hergestellt.
