Info:Die Bahn hat ihren Ursprung in der bereits 1830 gegründeten Detroit & Pontiac RR, der zweiten Bahn im Staat Michigan auf der tatsächlich Züge fuhren. Die 25 Meilen lange Strecke Detroit-Pontiac hatte noch hölzerne Schwellen, die Traktion besorgten anfangs Pferde, und oft genug versank alles im Schlamm. 1855 mit der Oakland & Ottawa RR fusioniert, danach die Detroit & Milwaukee. Die wurde 1860 zahlungsunfähig, danach begann sich die kanadische Great Western Ry. zu interessieren, übernahm die Bahn nach erneuter Insolvenz 1875/78 vollständig und reorganisierte sie als Detroit, Grand Haven & Milwaukee Ry. Die nun 189 Meilen lange Hauptstrecke führte von Detroit nach Grand Haven am Ostufer des Lake Michigan. 1882 wurde die Great Western von der Grand Trunk Ry. of Canada übernommen, in der 1928 auch diese Bahn durch Fusion aufging. Ein zeitgeschichtlich interessantes Detail: im Personenverkehr unterschied die Bahn im 19. Jh. nach zwei Klassen: 1. Klasse und “emigrant” - wer in der Neuen Welt ankam, musste also erst einmal gewisse Unbequemlichkeiten in Kauf nehmen.
