Sie hatte einen großen Einfluß auf die Besiedlung und ökonomische Entwicklung der Region. Die Fort Worth and Denver City Ry wurde 1873 konzessioniert, Strecke von Fort Worth zur Staatsgrenze Texas/Colorado (454 Meilen). Dort Anschluß an die nach Denver weiterführende Strecke des 90 %igen Großaktionärs Colorado & Southern Ry. 1951 Änderung des Namens in Ft.
