Nicht nur als PKW-Hersteller, sondern auch als LKW-Produzent erlangte Volvo in den folgenden Jahrzehnten Weltgeltung. 1974 kaufte Volvo die holländische DAF-Automobilfabrik. 1999 wurde das PKW-Geschäft an den Ford-Konzern verkauft, der es in seine “Premier Automotive Group” neben den Marken Aston Martin und Jaguar integrierte.
