Die Familie Kölln führt das Unternehmen derzeit in der sechsten Generation. Hans Hinrich Kölln erwarb 1795 eine kleine, pferdegetriebene Grützmühle. So versorgte er die von Elmshorn nach Grönland auslaufenden Seefahrer mit Schiffszwieback. 1820 gründete Peter Kölln das heutige Industrie-Unternehmen. Neben dem Getreidegroßhandel entwickelten sich die Köllnflocken-Werke zu einem der bedeutendsten Haferverarbeiter Europas. Im Jahr 2004 erwarb das Unternehmen Pomps Kindergrieß und Edelweiss Milchzucker, sowie die Marken Livio, Biskin, Palmin und Becht's Speiseöl von der Unilever.
