Die Konkurrenz von bis zu drei Theatern, obwohl Altona im Gründungsjahr gerade einmal 20.000 Einwohner hatte, brachte die urspüngliche AG später in Schwierigkeiten; 1874 wurde die "Ges. des Altonaer Schauspielhauses" als Auffang-Gesellschaft gegründet. Das Theater wurde an den Direktor verpachtet, zur Aufrechterhaltung des Betriebes steuerte sogar der König von Preußen eine jährliche Subvention von 6.000 Mark bei: Damals gehörte die Stadt Altona zu Preußen und man war bemüht, der übermächtigen Hansestadt Hamburg in kultureller Hinsicht Paroli zu bieten. | | Specials: | Ein kulturgeschichtlich hochinteressantes Dokument.
