Gegen die österreichische Herrschaft erhob sich am 22.3.1848 ein Aufstand mit Proklamation einer Venetianischen Republik (Republik San Marco). Führer war Daniele Manin (1804-1857). Zusammen mit Nicolo Tommaseo gründete er die Republik, die er bis zum August 1849 als Diktator regierte. Der Belagerung durch die Österreicher musste sich die Stadt ergeben, Manin wurde zur Kapitulation und zum Verlassen Venedigs gezwungen. | | Specials: | Originalunterschrift von Manin.
