Morgan, der aus einer Kette großer Banken einen neuen Finanzriesen formte. 1909 erwarb die Commercial National ihrerseits die Bankers’ National Bank. 1910 mit der Continental National Bank zur späteren “Continental Illinois National Bank & Trust Co.” fusioniert. In den 1970er Jahren beschäftigte die Bank 8.200 Leute in 60 Filialen auf allen Kontinenten. Wegen des starken Kreditengagements in der Ölindustrie während der Ölkrise der 1980er Jahre schwach geworden und vom staatlichen Einlagensicherungssystem gerettet.
