Bereits 1926 wurde “HEHABER” als Repräsentant von Portugal bei dem Keren Kajemeth LeJisrael (weltweiter Jüd. Nationalfond für Bodenkauf und Wiederaufforstung von Palästina/Israel) anerkannt. “HEHABER” arbeitete aktiv an der Ausbildung von jungen “Halutzim”, so dass 1937 eine Gruppe von Jugendlichen im Alter von 12-23 Jahren als Siedler in der Neuen Heimat ankam. Erst ab 1892 wurden die Juden in Portugal offiziell anerkannt. In den vorangegangenen Jahrhunderten wurden die Juden Portugals immer wieder zwangsweise getauft, vertrieben, versklavt, umgebracht.
