Doch noch größerer Ehrgeiz packte ihn, und so verließ er GM, kaufte 1916 die Jeffery-Werke und brachte 1917 den ersten Wagen unter seinem eigenen Namen “Nash” heraus. 1922/24 übernahm er die Wettbewerber LaFayette und Mitchell, 1923 wurde Ehlert-Nash in Argentinien gegründet. Ein Produktionsrekord jagte den anderen, 1934 lief der millionste Nash vom Band. 1954 übernahm Nash die Hudson Motor Co. und wurde American Motors.
