Lewin in Berlin (1859) und Guben an der Neisse (1876) begründeten Hutfabrikationsgeschäftes. Seit Gründung an der Berliner Börse notiert. 1907 Ankauf der Berthold Lissner’schen Wollhut- und Haarhutfabriken in Guben. Auch nach Stillegung zweier Fabriken in der Weltwirtschaftkrise beschäftige die Ges. Anfang der 30er Jahre in ihren Werken noch über 3.500 Arbeiter. Großaktionäre waren zu der Zeit das Bankhaus Jarislowsky & Co., die Darmstädter und Nationalbank sowie die Deutsche Bank und Disconto-Gesellschaft.
