Sie begann 1852 mit dem Bau von Pferdekutschen. 1902 Herstellung von elektro-, 1904 von benzinbetriebenen Kraftwagen. 1954 Fusion mit der legendären Packard (gegr. 1909), was den Niedergang von Packard aber nur verzögerte. Beim Produktionsende 1958 verbargen sich hinter dem Packard-Markenzeichen lupenreine Studebaker-Modelle. 1966 wurde die Automobilherstellung ganz eingestellt. 1967 Fusion mit der Worthington Corp. (gegr. 1840) zur Studebaker-Worthington Inc. als Holdinggesellschaft für Maschinenbauunternehmen. Specials: Stahlstich mit Abb. der Hütte von John Studebaker zum Bau von Pferdekutschen.
