In den Stewart Street Werken der Motorrad- und Automobilfirma A.J.S. wurden ursprünglich Beiwagen hergestellt, ab 1922 Radios. 1928 wurden die Werke von der frisch gegründeten Symphony Gramophone & Radio Co. übernommen, die mit ca. 100 Arbeitern Radioempfänger, auch batteriebetriebene, Plattenspieler und Musiklautsprecher herstellte. Qualitätsprobleme führten bereits 6 Monate nach der Gründung zur Zahlungsunfähigkeit, als hunderte Geräte reklamiert wurden.
