Hier, in der Werft von John Scott Russel (1808-1882) wurde eine Reihe von bekannten Schiffen gebaut: Dampfer für die Royal Mail Steam Packet Co., stahlbekleidete Schiffe für die Marine des Zaren (dank John Hughes, der auch in Kronstadt, Russland, Schiffe baute), Kriegsschiffe für die Royal Navy (u.a. HMS Northumberland, gepanzerte Fregatte, 1866 gebaut) 1861-1868, die Superlative-Schiffe von Isambard Kingdom Brunel (1806-1859). Der geniale Ingenieur Brunel, Gründer der Great Western Railway, ließ bei den Millwall Iron Works die “Great Britain” bauen, das erste Stahlschiff der Welt (1845, proppelergetriebener Transatlantikdampfer) und das größte Dampfschiff der Welt, die “Great Eastern” (1853-58). | | Specials: | Mit dekorativem Prägesiegel.
