Die Anteile der familiengeführten Stockholms Enskilda Bank (heute SEB), darunter Beteiligungen an Atlas Copco und Ericsson, wurden in das neu geschaffene Investmentunternehmen übertragen, das bereits 1917 an der Stockholmer Börse notiert wurde. In den 1920er und 1930er Jahren erweiterte Investor sein Portfolio durch Übernahmen wie Scania-Vabis, SKF und STAB nach dem Kollaps des Kreuger-Konzerns 1932 und etablierte sich als zentraler Akteur der schwedischen Industrie. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg festigte die Familie unter Marcus Wallenberg ihre Kontrolle, gründete 1963 Incentive AB und fusionierte in den 1970er Jahren Banken sowie Portfoliounternehmen.
