Dr. Wolfgang Schuppli, der medienscheue Milliardär aus Wiesbaden (2007 Platz 69 der reichsten Deutschen) gründete 1957 die Deutsche Rechtsschutz-Versicherungs-AG (DEURAG) als eine der ersten deutschen Rechtsschutzversicherungen. 1985 mußte sich der Rüstungskonzern Rheinmetall auf Drängen des Bundeskartellamtes von seiner WMF-Beteiligung trennen. Dr. Schuppli übernahm für 60 Mio. DM die Mehrheit am WMF.
