place: | Detroit, Mich. | | Picture: |  | | Number: | 7 | | Info: | Gegründet 1901 durch die Grand Rapids & Indiana RR zum Bau einer Eisenbahn von Traverse City nach Northport, Mich., von wo es per Fähre weiterging nach Manistique auf der Upper Peninsula. Die Bahn komplettierte eine Verbindung von Northport zur Walton Junc. an der Nord-Süd-Hauptstrecke der G.R.&I.R.R. Nach deren Konkurs wurde die 1903 begonnene Fährverbindung 1908 schon wieder eingestellt und nie wieder aufgenommen. 1919 wurde auch die Traverse City, Leelanau & Manistique Ry. als „Railroad“ reorganisiert und an die Manistee & North-Eastern RR verpachtet. Mit deren Übernahme 1955 ging der Pachtvertrag auf die Chesapeake & Ohio Ry. über. Erst 1975 wurde das letzte Stück der Strecke stillgelegt. Ab 1989 wurde die immer noch intakte Strecke von der Lelanau Scenic Railway befahren, doch auch das endete bereits 1995, als ein LKW gegen eine Bahnbrücke krachte und sie zum Einsturz brachte. | | Specials: | Ausgestellt auf die Grand Rapids & Indiana Railway.
