place: | Covington, Ky. | | Picture: |  | | Number: | 532 | | Info: | Die alte Kentucky Central Ry. entstand 1871 aus der Covington & Lexington RR (gegr. 1949) und der Maysville & Lexington RR (die 1847 als Licking & Lexington RR entstanden war, die auf ihrem Weg von Maysville zunächst dem Licking River folgte, um dann über Paris weiter nach Lexington zu laufen). Vor allem die Hauptstrecke Covington - Livingston, Ky. (153 Meilen) erlitt im Sezessionskrieg schwere Schäden, trotz der vom Federal Govt. errichteten Befestigungsanlagen zum Schutz der Bahn. Um 1880 fiel die Bahn dem „robber baron“ Collis P. Huntington in die Hände, der mit ungezügelten Ausbauplänen Richtung Westen ihre Finanzen überforderte, was 1886 zur erneuten Insolvenz führte. Anschließend 1887 als Kentucky Central Railway reorganisiert. 1891 wurde die Bahn für 3,25 Mio. $ an die Louisville & Nashville RR verkauft. Die dann noch in Betrieb befindlichen Teile kamen 1983 zum Seaboard System und 1986 zu CSX Transportation. | | Specials: | Blaugrün/schwarzer FBNC-Stahlstich, ungemein feine Vignette einer Dampflok. | | Availability: | Nur neun ausgestellte Stücke gibt es lt.
