place: | Ottawa, Ill. | | Picture: |  | | Number: | 42 | | Info: | Gegründet 1852 (und reorganisiert 1866) zum Bau einer 68 Meilen langen Bahn von Ottawa (La Salle County) durch das Tal des Fox River über Oswego (Kendall County) nach Elgin (Kane County). 1867 wurde das erste Stück von Streator (vor allem für das dortige Kohlenbergwerk) nach Wenona, Ill. fertig, wo die Bahn an die Strecke der Illinois Central anschloß. 1870 wurde die Bahn an die Chicago, Burlington & Quincy verpachtet und 1899 komplett an diese verkauft. Der größte Teil der Strecke ist bis heute in Betrieb und wurde 1999 an Illinois RailNet (seit 2005 Illinois Railway) verkauft, die hier jeden Tag einen gewaltigen Güterzug mit über 100 Waggons Sand vor allem für die Fracking-Öl-Industrie fahren lässt. | | Specials: | Ausgestellt auf die Town of South Ottawa, die damit den Bau der für sie wichtigen Bahn unterstützte.
