Der Firmensitz befand sich in Paris, die Hauptwerke waren in Fives, einem Stadtteil von Lille im Departement Nord und in Givors im Rhonetal südlich von Lyon. 1861 siedelte sich das belgische Unternehmen Parent & Schaken in Lille an, das sich bereits beim Bau der ersten Eisenbahn in Belgien einen Namen gemacht hatte. Die Werkstätten wurden Mechanische Werkstätten Fives genannt. Ab 1868 Cie. de Fives-Lille pour contructions mecaniques et entreprises. Die Produktionskapazitäten wurden erhöht und Metallbrücken, Kriegsgeschosse wie Granaten und Flugzeumotoren gebaut. Die Firmen Cail und Fives-Lille schlossen sich 1958 zur Firma Fives-Lille-Cail zusammen.
