place: | Paris | | Picture: |  | | Number: | 16548 | | Info: | André Citroën (1878-1935) erwarb 1900 auf einer Reise durch Polen ein Patent für eine Verzahnungsmaschine. Kaum bekannt ist, daß die Fa. Citroën anfangs Zahnräder und Getriebe produzierte. Die französischen Aktivitäten brachte André Citroën 1913 in eine Aktiengesellschaft ein (die russische Tochter wurde interessanter Weise schon ein Jahr zuvor 1912 eine AG). Im 1. Weltkrieg wurde die Produktion auf Rüstungsgüter umgestellt, ab 1915 produzierte Citroën u.a. 23 Mio. Schrapnellgranaten. Erst nach Kriegsende wandte sich Citroën, mit dem Rüstungsgeschäft zu ausreichend Kapital gekommen, dem Automobilbau zu und brachte 1919 mit dem Citroën Typ A das erste in Großserie gebaute europäische Automobil auf den Markt.
