Hergestellt wurden mit früher 1.300 Mitarbeitern Fahrräder, Motorräder und Mopeds sowie Büro-, Schreib-, Buchungs-, Fakturier- und Addiermaschinen. In Frankfurt börsennotiert, letzter Großaktionär war der amerikanische Konkurrent Remington Rand Inc., New York. Über 80 % der Werksanlagen wurden im 2. Weltkrieg zerstört. Nach 1945 rasanter Wiederaufstieg mit Werken in Frankfurt, Alzenau und Groß-Karben, aber nach dem Wirtschaftswunder-Boom kam das schleichende Aus: 1956/57 Ende der Zweiradfertigung (deshalb 1959 umfirmiert in Torpedo Büromaschinen Werke AG). Die Produktionsumstellung 1964/65 von elektro-mechanischen auf elektronische Fakturier- und Buchungsmaschinen hielt die Erosion nicht auf: 1966 Einstellung der Schreibmaschinenproduktion, 1967 Ausverkauf im Werk Rödelheim. 1968 Umwandlung in die Torpedo Büromaschinen Werke GmbH, 1973 Einstellung der Produktion von Buchungsmaschinen. | | Specials: | Lochentwertet (RB). | | Availability: | R 8 | | Condition: | EF-. | | Sold: | 300,00 EUR |
