Info:1847 war mit der Gründung der Ocean Steam Navigation Co. eine Entscheidung gefallen: Deren von der US-Regierung und dem Generalpostmeister mit 400.000 $ subventionierter Vertrag schuf mit der Verbindung New York-Bremerhaven den ersten Liniensienst von den USA zum europäischen Festland. Um den Vertrag hatten auch Le Havre, Amsterdam und Hamburg konkurriert. Die ließen nach der Entscheidung für Bremerhaven nicht locker und etablierten eigene Direktverbinfungen. Die erste Le-Havre-Gesellschaft (die New York & Havre Steam Navigation Co.), die der OSNC direkte Konkurrenz machte, ging wenig darauf wieder pleite. 1867 war deren Nachfolger, die New York & Havre Steamship Co. die einzige amerikanische Passagier-Linie nach England und Frankreich (die Transatlantikstrecke wurde sonst nur von ausländischen Linien wie Norddeutscher Lloyd und Cunard befahren). Daher waren auf der “Arago”, die am 8.6.1867 in See stoch, unter den 200 Passagieren (alle in der 1. Klasse) viele Prominente an Bord. Aber die Arago und die Fulton waren auch die letzten beiden Schiffe der amerikanischen New York & Havre Steam Ship Co. mit Atlantik-Passagierdienst. Der Betrieb wurde 1868 eingestellt.
Specials:Original signiert von Isaac Bell als Präsident. Sein Sohn, Isaac Beel jr., machte Karriere als Diplomat, u.a. US-Botschafter in den Niederlanden. Tolle Vignette mit Schaufelraddampfer in bewegter See.
