Die Stadt wurde 1840 gegründet von den portugiesischen Kolonialherren. Angolas Küste ist 1.600 km lang und wird von durchziehenden Walen regelmäßig besucht, was die besten Voraussetzungen für eine erfolgreiche Walfangindustrie lieferte. | | Specials: | Wohl eines der dekorativsten Wertpapiere zum Thema Walfang überhaupt. Große Abbildung eines erlegten Buckelwals, dahinter ein Walfangschiff, unten Walfangharpune, auf einen aufgetauchten Wal zielend.
