Info:1807 hatte Robert Fulton mit der „North River Steamboat“ das erste kommerziell betriebene Dampfschiff der Vereinigten Staaten in Dienst gestellt, das auf dem Hudson River Passagiere von New York nach Albany transportierte. Nur 10 Jahre später, am 21.7.1817 schloß dann diese Ges. mit dem Mechaniker Junia Curtis aus New York einen Vertrag, wonach er (genau nach den Plänen der von ihm kürzlich abgelieferten „Swift“) einen weiteren Raddampfer „Golden Fleece“ bauen sollte. Es muß ein sehr taugliches Schiff gewesen sein, berichtet doch der „Maritime Intelligence“ der New York Times noch 1860 von der Ankunft der aus New York kommenden „Golden Fleece“ in San Francisco.
Specials:Holzstich-Vignette mit Ansicht des Dampfers „Golden Fleece“. Als president original unterschrieben von Junia Curtis, dem Konstrukteur des Schiffes. Die hier dokumentierte Teilung eines Anteils war z.B. im damaligen spanischen Bergbau durchaus gebräuchlich, für eine US-amerikanische Aktie ist sie jedoch u.W. einmalig.
Availability:Unentwertet. Bislang vollkommen unbekannt gewesen, aus einer uralten Maritim-Sammlung und mit großer Wahrscheinlichkeit ein UNIKAT. Dabei eine Fotokopie des 1817er Bauvertrages für das Schiff.
