Info:Die Wurzeln gehen bis in das Jahr 1832 zurück, als die spätere M.C.R.R. als "Detroit & St. Joseph Railroad" gegründet wurde. Der Streckenbau begann 1836 in Detroit. 1837 wurde die Bahn an den neu gegründeten Bundesstaat Michigan verkauft, der sie in „Central Railroad of Michigan“ umbenannte. Für damals sagenhafte 2 Mio. Dollar wurde die Bahn 1846 erneut verkauft an die neu gegründete „Michigan Central Rail Road Co.“ Die folgenden Jahrzehnte überstand die M.C.R.R. im Gegensatz zu so gut wie allen anderen US-Bahngesellschaften ohne jede Reorganisation. Im Laufe der Zeit kaufte sie noch ein gutes Dutzend weitere Bahnen auf, die sie 1916 durch Verschmelzung komplett absorbierte. So entstand ein über 1.800 Meilen Streckenlänge umfassendes Netz mit der 270 Mailen langen Hauptstrecke Detroit, Mich. nach Kensington, Ill. Zuletzt Teil des mächtigen New-York-Central-Systems.
Specials:Schöne feine Stahlstich-Vignette mit Schafhirte, Eisenbahn, Allegorie. Ausgestellt auf George W. Vanderbilt (1862-1914) und rückseitig von ihm original signiert. Sohn von Wiliam H. Vanderbilt, Enkel von Cornelius (1794-1877), Bruder von Cornelius (1843-99) und William K. Vanderbilt. George Washington war Kapitalist, Landwirtschaftler und ein Pionier auf dem Gebiet der Forstwirtschaft. Er gründete und führte die Baltmore Nursery und die Baltmore School of Forestry.
Availability:Es gibt nur 20 Aktien mit OU George W. Vanderbilt. Seit 1990 in der Sammlung. (R 8)
