Cotterill angeblich für die Herstellung von kristallinem Traubenzucker und Zuckerraffinade durch elektrische Prozesse. Die Werksanlagen befanden sich in Milan, Michigan, beaufsichtigt von einem gewissen “Professor” Freund, der manchmal auch als Prof. Friend auftrat. Ab 1885 rührten die Ausgesandten der Firma die Werbetrommeln in England, wo die Aktien umgerechnet mit bis zu 400 $ an der Börse notierten. Im Dezember 1888 flog der Schwindel auf: zu den Hauptgeschädigten zählte die Institution der anglikanische Kirche, aber auch zahlreiche Kirchenmitglieder, u.a. in Liverpool. | | Specials: | Sehr dekorative kreisrunde VIgnette mit Wappen, links Indianer, rechts Matrose, oben Adler mit ausgebreiteten Schwingen.
