Herstellung und Vertrieb von Phonographen, Sprechmaschinen, Schallplatten, Rechenmaschinen und Kinematographen, außerdem wesentliche Beteiligung an der Universum-Film-AG (UFA). 1910 Übernahme der Beka-Rekord AG in Berlin. 1925 Abschluß eines Interessenvertrages mit der Columbia Graphophone Comp. in London, die auch Großaktionär war. 1936 wurde die Sprechmaschinenfabrikation auf die neugegründete 100 % Tochter Brandenburgische Metallverarbeitungs-GmbH übertragen. Weitere Töchter: Odeon Musik-Haus GmbH, Kristall-Schallplatten-GmbH und Frey Radio-GmbH (alle in Berlin). Bis 1935 in Berlin börsennotiert. Im Dritten Reich stand die Gesellschaft wegen des britischen Großaktionärs unter Feindvermögensverwaltung, hinterher übernahmen die Alliierten die Kontrolle. Trotz starker Kriegsschäden konnte die im amerikanischen Sektor (Berlin SO 36, Schlesische Str. 27) liegende Fabrik schon wenige Monate nach Kriegsende die Produktion von Schallplatten und Plattenspielern wieder aufnehmen. 1951 Umwandlung in eine GmbH, 1953 Sitzverlegung nach Köln-Braunsfeld. | | Specials: | Die bedeutendste Firma in der deutschen Unterhaltungs-Industrie der Vorkriegszeit!
