Auf der Pazifikseite schloss sich ein Liniendienst der Pacific Mail Co. über Acapulco und Manzanilo nach San Francisco an. Wenige Jahre nach dem Sezessionkrieg wurde die Atlantic Mail Steamship Co. dann für 5,4 Mio. $ von der Pacific Mail Co. übernommen, der dabei sicher zu Gute kam, daß sie im Bürgerkrieg die Nordstaaten u.a. mit Goldtransporten unterstützt hatte.
