Info:Ab 1877 waren in Köln und Umgebung Pferdebahnen unterwegs. In Rat und Verwaltung herrschte damals Übereinstimmung, dass “in keiner anderen Stadt von der Größe Kölns die verkehrsverhältnisse in der Stadt und zu den Vororten so kläglich seien wie in Köln”. Als eine mögliche Lösung wurden die Pferdeomnibusse angesehen, die in ihrer Fahrspur nicht festgelegt und damit flexibler und von Verkehrshindernissen wie Baustellen nicht so stark betroffen waren. Um eine sinnvolle Ergänzung des Pferdebahnnetzes zu gewährleisten, vergab die Stadt 1891 Lizenzen für insgesamt acht Buslinien an die neu gegründete “Kölner Omnibus AG”. der beiden Ingenieure Erhard Arnoldi und Max Grunewald. Am 31. Okt. 1891 nahm die erste Linie zwischen Ehrenfeld, Neumarkt und Deutz ihren Betrieb auf. Das Unternehmen erwies sich allerdings als unrentabel, bereits im März 1894 meldete die Gesellschaft Konkurs an.
