Die erste Strassenbeleuchtung wurde in Paris bereits 1820 installiert, aufbauend auf der Erfindung des deutschstämmigen Friedrich Albert Winsor, der bereits 1807 eine Gasbeleuchtungsgesellschaft in London gründete. 1850 erfand Edward Shepard die elektrische Bogenlampe mit Kohlenglühfaden. Aufbauend auf dieser revolutionären Erfindung wollte die Gesellschaft Paris und andere Städte mit elektrischem Licht beleuchten. Anscheinend war die Shepardsche Erfindung der elektrische Glühlampe noch nicht ausgereift, denn es bedürfte das Genie von Thomas A. Edison, der 1879 eine tatsächlich dauerhaft funktionierende elektrische Bogenlampe mit Kohlenglühfaden erfand und patentierte. | | Specials: | Hochdekorativer Druck, gestaltet von dem Maler und Illustrator Hercule Catenacci (in der Platte signiert).
