place: | Paris | | Picture: |  | | Number: | 402 | | Info: | Die Reederei wurde 1827 gegründet zwecks Kauf und Betrieb des Dampfschiffes "Aaron Manby", eines Flussdampfers mit komplett eisernem Rumpf. "Aaron Manby" wurde 1822 von Aaron Manby gebaut, dem Besitzer der seinerzeit größten Eisengießerei Frankreichs in Le Creusot. Manby besaß außerdem bedeutende Anteile an der Passagierfahrt auf der Seine. Daher wagte er den kühnen Schritt, ein Schiff mit komplett eisernem Rumpf zu konstruieren und dieses zwischen den Handelsplätzen Paris, Rouen und Le Havre einzusetzen. "Aaron Manby" wurde auf bei Horseley Iron Works in Tipton, Staffordshire, gebaut. Dann wurde das Schiff demontiert und über Land in die Surrey Docks von Rotherhithe bei London transportiert, wo es wieder zusammen montiert wurde. Allein dies galt bereits als eine großePioniertat. Die Jungfernfahrt erfolgte im Juni 1822 unter Kapitän (später Admiral) Charles Napier, mit Manbys Sohn Charles an Bord als Ingenieur. In die Geschichte ging "Aaron Manby" als erstes komplett eisernes Schiff ein, das den Ärmelkanal überquerte. Die "S.A. des Bateaux a vapeur en fer sur Seine" setzte das Schiff auf der Strecke Paris - Le Havre ein. | | Specials: | Dekorative Aktiengestaltung mit Abbildung des weltersten eisernen Dampfers "Aaron Manby". Das Schiff war 120 Fuß (36,6 m) lang, 116 BRT. Die Dampfmaschine entwarf und Aaron Manby patentierte (Britisches Patent Nr. 4558 von 1821). Die Schaufelräder hatten Durchmesser von 12 Fuß (3,7 m). Das Schiff war bis 1855 im Einsatz. Drei Originalsignaturen. Prägesiegel mit Abb.des Schaufelraddampfers.
